In August, early morning is the best time to be outside in Phoenix, and the best time to water your garden. So, most summer mornings find me outside, sleepily dragging garden hoses from one flower pot to the next and contemplating the new day. I water from a sense of obligation, since the plants will die if I don’t. However, every so often I wake up enough to marvel at the wonders surrounding me.
During summer afternoons, my husband and I stay occupied with inside projects, such as painting, reading a book or taking a siesta. But by early evening, we are back outside floating in the pool and discussing the events of the day. Sometimes we linger outside and barbecue something tasty for dinner. Our days are filled with tasks, small and large, but the best of the day is the time we spend outside.
